How Do I Donate My Body to Science After Death?
Fill out the declaration of consent (PDF - 34.1 KB) for post-mortem whole body and tissues donation (PMD).
In this form, you must name a person you trust (a trustee), who will take on the responsibility of informing the doctor who will certifies your death of your will to donate.
You may also name another person as a substitute for the trustee. They will carry out your wishes if the trustee is dead or otherwise incapacitated.
Once you will have filled in the form (PDF - 34.1 KB)(PMD), you’ll need to bring it to your town/city hall to authenticate your signature.
Bring the filled and signed form (PMD) in person to your local health authority (ASL).
The local health authority will promptly transmit the information contained in the form to the national data base.

What next?
- Your trustee (or their eventual substitute) will inform the doctor who certifies your death about your will to whole body donation.
- The doctor will contact the Referral centre to let them know of you will and thus activate the verification processes.
- The local health offices will sends to the Referral centre both the certificates of death and suitability for donation.
- Your body will be transported from the place of death to the Referral centre.
- The Centre will be in charge of your body for 12 months; during this period all the activities provided for by Law 10/2020 will be carried out with maximum respect for your body dignity and your anonymity.
- At the end of this period, your body will be returned to your family. The Referral centre will cover the costs of transportation, as well as the body burial or cremation, in compliance with your wishes.
